Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between 925 sterling silver and 999 fine silver?

Sterling silver is 92.5% silver alloyed with copper for strength — the standard for chains, clasps and anything that takes daily strain. Fine silver is 99.9% pure: brighter, slower to tarnish and kinder to sensitive skin, but softer. NJewellery's Italian chains and bracelets are sterling; Natalia's handmade pieces are mostly fine silver.

Does silver jewellery tarnish?

Sterling silver slowly darkens through contact with air and moisture — it is a surface reaction, not damage, and a silver polishing cloth restores it in a minute. Fine silver tarnishes noticeably more slowly because there is almost no copper in it. Storing pieces in a closed pouch between wears slows tarnish considerably.

Is silver jewellery suitable for sensitive skin?

Usually. Reactions are most often caused by nickel, and neither our sterling nor fine silver pieces contain it. If you know you react even to sterling silver, choose 999 fine silver — at 99.9% purity there is very little else in the metal to react to.

Is gold-plated silver real gold?

Yes — a layer of real 18ct gold bonded over solid 925 sterling silver. You get the look of gold at silver prices; the plating softens at contact points over years of wear. Solid-gold versions of many designs are in our gold collections.

Where is this jewellery made?

The sterling chains and bracelets are made in Italy by family workshops and hand-picked by Natalia. The fine silver rings, earrings, pendants and enamel pieces are handmade by Natalia on the Central Coast of New South Wales — each one of a kind.
