Is gold plated silver real gold?

The plating is real 18ct gold; the body of the chain is solid 925 sterling silver. What you are not getting is gold-plated brass or base metal — the underlying metal here is precious in its own right.

How long does the gold plating last?

It depends on wear. Chains worn occasionally keep their colour for years; daily wear, perfume, sanitiser and swimming shorten it. When plating eventually softens at contact points, the sterling underneath shows through — silver, not grey base metal.

How do I care for gold plated jewellery?

Put it on after perfume and sunscreen, keep it out of pools and the gym, and wipe it with a soft dry cloth after wear. Store it in a pouch. Avoid silver polishing cloths — they are abrasive enough to thin the plating.
